What's Your Why?

I've been in education for 11 years. Within those years, all have been different. One of the constant variables is change. Experience has taught me that change leads to growth. However, a lack of acceptance can be a barrier to change. To prepare students with adequate foundational skills to build upon future learning opportunities. We should reflect on the changes necessary to accomplish this goal. We must provide the best educational opportunities to our students. Most teachers are in education because they genuinely care about children and their success. However, some teachers have lost their passion and ultimately have fallen short. For those few, please consider our students as if they were your children and seek to provide them with the same education you would want them to receive.

Implementing ePortfolios into kindergarten classrooms to increase literacy skills can be the beginning of a fantastic groundwork that can set up students for success in the future. Additionally, eportfolios can serve as an excellent tool for communication between teachers and families. By using eportfolios, teachers can engage young learners in taking control of their learning and tracking their progress over time. This type of learning is significant for our students because of the growing number of students entering upper grades without the necessary foundational skills to succeed.

Eportfolios allow students to have choice, ownership, and voice through authentic learning opportunities. For example, students could use eportfolios to share their work with parents and classmates after completing a phonics activity. Students could also reflect on their learning experiences in writing or through recorded videos. The teacher would provide guidance and support as needed but ultimately allow each student to customize their eportfolio according to their interests and learning needs.

If we provide the best educational opportunities to our students, they will be able to grow and succeed. By using eportfolios, we can engage young learners in taking control of their learning. This type of learning is significant because it helps our students build the necessary foundation skills to succeed later in their schooling journey. We should always reflect on the changes required to accomplish our goal of preparing students for future learning opportunities.

Why

Every student should have opportunities to create, share, and reflect on their learning experiences while developing foundational education skills.

What
