Disruptive Innovation: Collaboration

Writer: LaTammie RawlsLaTammie Rawls

As an educator, one essential thing is to grow and learn continually. Learning and growing

vital components of change. Change is necessary to allow for growth. The ability to adapt to change is even more important. Our country's education system is suffering because of its reluctance to change. Our world is changing rapidly because of technology and how information is readily available. If we want to teach our kids the skills to live in a technology-driven society, the education system we have now has to change.

I find it interesting that Michael Horn states, "The American school system was literally built to standardize the way we teach and test. It was literally modeled after a factory. This is all industrial thinking." I completely agree with these statements. It seems we are educating students in the 21st century with 19 century standards.

Our education system is in trouble due to its inability to adapt to change. This is a serious issue that must be addressed, as our country's future depends on the success of our students. We need to find a way to make our education system more flexible and able to respond to new challenges and technologies. We must also find a way to get our students excited about learning again and make them feel like they are part of the process.
