Learning Manifesto Thoughts

Writer: LaTammie RawlsLaTammie Rawls

As an educator, I believe that it is important for me to learn and improve continuously. I must be a learner first so that I can encourage students to be learners as well. This is also important because education is constantly evolving, and what worked in the past may not work now.

I believe all students can learn, and it is our job as educators to identify all student's learning needs. I want students to learn through exploring and discovery. I want to inspire kids to get excited about learning, so I must pique their interest. In today's world, most children learn to operate electronic devices before they can write their names. This means they are in tune with technology before entering a classroom. As educators, we need to capitalize on our students' background knowledge by providing the necessary learning opportunities. Students learn best when actively engaged in the learning process. Students also learn when they receive feedback and have opportunities to reflect on their learning.

By creating significant learning environments where students feel safe to take risks, they will have opportunities to be successful.
